# GNX1200 – The Word IF condition does not work

Error code 1200 (GNX1200). The Word IF condition inserted in a template does not trigger or returns an incorrect value after the document is generated.

**Error code:** `GNX1200`

## Error description

After a document is generated, the Word IF condition inserted in the document does not trigger, returns the wrong value, always returns the same value, or displays only part of the result.

## Solutions

* A condition created from the assistant panel must be added to the document with the "Insert field" feature. On Windows: Insert > Quick Parts > Field > Categories: All > If. On macOS, go to the Insert tab > Field. Select the IF condition and paste the condition copied from the assistant panel. It must not be pasted as-is into the document.
* The condition may be hidden and easy to miss. Make it visible with the "Toggle Field Codes" feature, available by right-clicking in the document. For a nested condition, select the whole document with "Ctrl + A" and toggle the field codes to select all the conditions.

### Error in the value to compare

* The expected value of a picklist field is exactly the result obtained at generation, i.e. the label of the value. Place the tag to compare on its own in your document and copy-paste the result to make sure the expected value is correct.
* The expected value of a currency field is exactly the result obtained at generation. The space between the number and the currency is a non-breaking space (Ctrl+Shift+Space), not a regular space. `0,00 €`, not `0`
* You can build a condition on a child tag provided it is placed in a table
* The expected value of a checkbox field is `true`/ `false`. If the box is checked, the result is `true`.

## Workaround

* If the logic is complex to set up, creating a formula field in Salesforce can work around the problem.

## Limitations

* Word IF conditions can only be used with Word. You can use Excel IF formulas to get similar behavior, but there is no equivalent in PowerPoint, PDF forms or Google Docs.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://university.gonexa.fr/university/en/error-codes/gnx1200.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
