# Collect files while signing

Ask signers to provide files before signing a document.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Prerequisites**

* Gonexa Sign installation and configuration
* Creation of a Gonexa Sign document template with a signature placeholder
* Have the Gonexa Sign Admin permission set to configure interactions
* Have at least package version 2.2
  {% endhint %}

## Why ask for files?

Ask your signers for documents to add to their procedure so you can synchronize them into your CRM.

### What is a file to collect?

Files to collect let you ask signers to provide one or more files before signing the document, such as an ID document or bank details (RIB).

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Warning**

You can request up to 10 different files from your signers. You can request more than 10 files if all signers must provide the same document, for example an ID document, provided that they are named identically.
{% endhint %}

## Set up a file to collect

After creating a document template with Gonexa Doc, adding a recipient, and inserting a signature placeholder:

* Go to the "Sign" tab, then to the "Files to collect" component
* Click "New" and enter the expected file type, for example RIB. This is the name of the document the signer will see when signing
* Select the recipient who must provide this file from the list of signers configured on the document template
* Indicate whether the signer must upload the file in order to sign by checking the "Required" box
* By default, the file is stored on the Signer object. If you want to change where the file is stored, fill in the "Link a file to" field and select the desired path

{% hint style="success" %}
**Example**

If the generation context is an Opportunity, you can select `Account.Id` to link the RIB to the opportunity's account
{% endhint %}

* Check the "Change the name of the uploaded file" box if you want to apply a default name to the collected file. You can then define a prefix and a suffix for the file.

For example, the prefix RIB and the Opportunity Name as a suffix

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://university.gonexa.fr/sign/en/advanced-features/collect-files.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
