# Display conditions in Word

Bring dynamism to your templates by creating display conditions that show an element based on one or more Salesforce criteria.

This training is broken down into **2 simple steps**:

* Creating a simple condition to understand the principle
* The most common real-life use cases

{% hint style="info" %}
**Prerequisites**

* Have a template already prepared with a main object and a child object (optional)
* Work on a Word template - this feature is not available in Google Docs
  {% endhint %}

## When should you use a condition?

A display condition lets you show or hide any element of your template, such as a clause or a section, using Word's IF conditional logic.

It can be based on a main object field, a parent object, a child object, a checkbox, a currency or a picklist, and can display text, a number, a static or dynamic image, a pictogram, a table, other tags or nothing at all.

The goal is to create a template with advanced logic that adapts to every situation, instead of multiplying versions for each variant.

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Warning**

The IF condition is only compatible with document templates whose input format is Word. It is therefore not compatible with PDF, PowerPoint or Excel templates.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://university.gonexa.fr/doc/en/getting-started/conditional-display.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
