# Create a PowerPoint document template

Create a document template in PPTX input format

{% embed url="<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiwzMLguDOM>" %}

This training is broken down into **3 steps**:

* When should you create a PowerPoint template?
* How do you create a PowerPoint template?
* Specificities & limitations of the PowerPoint template

{% hint style="info" %}
**Prerequisites**

* Know how to build a Word template
* Have created a document template
  {% endhint %}

## When should you create a PowerPoint template?

Create documents that can be generated in PDF or PowerPoint format to use a document as a slideshow.

### Generate a document in landscape format

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Warning**

The PowerPoint format has limitations. If you want to use this format to get a PDF document in landscape format, we recommend creating a landscape Word document instead.

In Word, go to the Layout tab and select the Landscape orientation
{% endhint %}

### Edit a PowerPoint

If you want to design visual presentations as slides, generate a PowerPoint document and edit it in this format

## How to create a PowerPoint template

Set up your document template as usual and add one or more child objects as needed.

### Creating the PowerPoint template

* Create slide masters from the View tab to make your presentations consistent
* Change the background formatting, add shapes and images, and create the design you like
* From the Picture Format tab, use the Bring Forward / Send Backward tools, manage automatic alignment and rearrange objects to create a high-quality document

### Adding tags

Add dynamic tags with the Assistant wherever you want

* Add the tags on the main object in text boxes
* Add the tags on the child object in a table

## Specificities & limitations of the PowerPoint template

PowerPoint differs mainly in how pages are handled, as slides. The document is no longer read continuously, but as independent slides

### Slide management

A PowerPoint template is not read continuously; it is made up of independent slides. If you add long text or a table, the content will not flow onto the next slide.

* Make sure the content fits on one slide, by checking that the text is not too long and that the key points fit on a page
* For a table, check that all the information you want to display fits on a single slide. Adjust the font size or add a condition on the number of items to display.

### PowerPoint limitations

The principle remains the same as for a Word document: you can add child objects, dynamic images resized on the main object, related documents, retrieve related records, filter tables...

{% hint style="danger" %}
**Warning**

PowerPoint has the following limitations and incompatibilities:

* No dynamic images on child objects
* The Gonexa Today's date tag is not compatible
* Format extensions (date, number, calculations, Rich Text) are not supported
* Display conditions are not compatible with PowerPoint
* Adding a related template of the dynamic appendix type is not compatible with PowerPoint
* Rich Text fields are not supported
* Line breaks in a text field that contains carriage returns are not supported
  {% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://university.gonexa.fr/doc/en/advanced-features/pdf-excel-powerpoint-templates/create-powerpoint-template.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
