# Deploying templates

Make it easier to deploy document templates between 2 Salesforce environments with L'App Gonexa.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Prerequisites**

* You have a Gonexa App account (if not, see ["Creating an App account"](/app/en/using-the-app/create-app-account.md))
* You have the "Gonexa Doc Admin permission sets" assigned in both the source and target environments
* You have connected at least 2 environments to the App (2 sandboxes or 1 sandbox + 1 production)
* You have at least 1 document template in an environment
  {% endhint %}

## Why use a "Deployment tool"?

**What is it for?**

Gonexa configuration cannot be deployed using a change set or a standard deployment tool, because it does not involve deploying metadata.

A document template is configured using data (entered in the "Template Name" field, output format, versioning policy, etc.) as well as the file containing the tags.

If you had to deploy this without a specific tool, you would need to export the data and the file, then recreate the links in the new environment. This is why we developed a tool that lets you export from one environment and import into the new one in just a few clicks.

## App connection

### You already have an App account

* In your Salesforce environments, go to the "Gonexa Administration" tab
* Click "Log in to the App" or go directly to the URL: <https://app.gonexa.fr/>

### You don't have an App account

* Go to the training module ["Creating an App account"](/app/en/using-the-app/create-app-account.md)

## Deploying templates

**Steps to follow**

* Go to the **Doc** tab, then **Deployment.** Choose a source environment and a target environment from the picklist
* The list of templates appears: select the template(s) you want to deploy
* Click "Deploy templates"
* A success message tells you that the templates have been deployed
* You can check in Salesforce that the templates are present and ready to use

You can deploy templates to a production environment or a sandbox.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Tip**

If you repeat the operation, the deployment updates the existing templates; it does not create duplicates if the templates are the same.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://university.gonexa.fr/app/en/using-the-app/deploy-templates.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
